William "Bill" Helms Obituary

Age 98 of Roseville, passed away peacefully July 3rd, 2021. Bill was born in Elma, Iowa, graduated from Elma Public High School at the age of 17 in 1940, and enlisted in 1943. He went on to be commissioned to the Marine Air Corps in Corpus Christi, Texas, and served in both World War II and the Korean Conflict. He would go on to be stationed at El Toro Air Base, doin trial work. After his time in the Marines, he met Frances Hill. They married in Lake Mills Iowa on June 29th, 1947. Bill then earned his juris doctorate upon completion of his studies at Drake University. Frances and Bill would go on to live in Falcon Heights, Minnesota from 1953 to 2008. He worked as a trust officer in St. Paul at American National Bank, and eventually as a financial planner at his own practice. Bill loved to play bridge, squash, handball, and golf. He was also an avid runner into his seventies, after which he took up swimming and yoga. Family trips to Iowa were enjoyed in William's early years. During his later years, holidays in Hawaii, hosted by William's nephew, Andrew, created many treasured memories for the entire family. William was preceded in death by his wife, Frances; sister, Marjorie (Peter) Czajkowski; brother, Wilbur James, and Niece, Marilyn (Carl) Kittleson. He is survived by his daughters, Sharlyn, and Barbara (Larry) Helms-Bot; granddaughters, Olivia (Riley) Miller, and Victoria Bot; nephew, Andrew (David Perbix) Czajkowski, and many other loving family and friends. A private family interment will be held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Union Gospel Mission or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Special thanks to Home Care Solutions and St. Paul Allina Hospice for the care and support they provided Bill and his family.
