Virginia Marie McCulloch (Gurtek), age 81, of Mounds View, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2026.
Born on June 26, 1944, to John and Veronica Gurtek in Minneapolis, Virginia was the sixth of seven children and grew up in St. Anthony, MN. She graduated from Mounds View High School in 1962.
In 1966, Virginia married the love of her life, William “Bill” McCulloch. Together they built a full and joyful life with their two sons, Kurt and Troy. On May 7th, they proudly celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Family was the center of Virginia’s world, and she cherished every moment with her six grandchildren - Michael, John, Mark, Ashley, Andrew and Lauren. She had a remarkable gift for remembering everyone’s birthdays. Not just immediate family, but in-laws, nieces, nephews, their spouses, their children. She remembered them all. It was a reflection of how much she cared.
Virginia was an active member of her community. She worked for Mounds View Public Schools and was a devoted parishioner of the St. John The Baptist Catholic Church for more than 50 years. She faithfully attended the 4:30 PM Saturday Mass and enjoyed sharing dinner and fellowship with friends afterwards.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents John and Veronica Gurtek; her in-laws Robert and Hettie McCulloch; and her siblings Adeline McCallum, Richard Gurtek, Barbara Tauer, Veronica “Toots” Gurtek, Phyllis Norbeck, and John Gurtek.
She is survived by her beloved husband, William “Bill” McCulloch; her sons Kurt (Stacey) McCulloch, and Troy (Karen) McCulloch; her six grandchildren; one brother in-law; two sisters in-law; and many nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass will be held 10:30 AM on June 22, 2026, at St. John The Baptist Catholic Church 835 2nd Ave. NW, New Brighton, MN 55112. Visitation will begin one hour prior to service, with a luncheon to follow.
