Obituary

Ulysses Carter, Jr. known to many as “Shang” was born in Dothan Alabama July 18, 1960, to Nuna Mae Ashley Carter and Ulysses Carter Sr.  Ulysses attended Dothan City Schools and graduated from Dothan High School in 1978.   Ulysses earned a bachelor’s degree from Alabama A&M University, graduating with honors.  He served in the Air Force, Army, and Army Reserve.  He worked for institutions such US Bank and Minneapolis Veterans hospital for many years.  He also worked as a computer analyst.  Ulysses will be remembered for his intelligence, love of learning, lively discussions of current news events, sports analysis, and love of R&B music.  He was an avid reader and was writing a book at the time of his death.  Ulysses was preceded in death by his parents, Ulysses and Nuna Ashley Carter, brothers, Clifton Henry Ashley, Willie Fred Ashley, William Edward Ashley, and sister Janice Hamlin.  Ulysses is survived by brother Eligah Fitzgerald Carter (Dothan, Alabama), Chriscinda Davis (Sean) of Dothan, Alabama, Jacqueline Carter- Critten (James) of Columbia Heights, Minnesota, Dr. Barbara Carter of Maplewood Minnesota, and many other loving family and friends.   Ulysses was a resident of St. Paul, Minnesota at the time of his time of his death. 

Celebration of Life:  Private Graveside Military Ceremony with full military honors on May 16, 2023, at 12:45 PM at Fort Snelling, MN.
