Obituary for Theodore George Brown
Ted was born December 27, 1951, to Leota Lucille (James) Brown and Ted Brown in Tuscumbia, Missouri. He died unexpectedly Thursday evening April 23, 2026, as a result of multiple heart attacks. While he was quite young, the family moved to Kansas City, Missouri to be closer to doctors who were treating his visual impairment. In the early 60’s the family moved again, this time to Coon Rapids, Minnesota where there were more and better services to give Ted the best education and care for his special needs. From an early age, he loved music and began playing the organ. His interest led to forming a band for which he played the keyboard and sang. The Wind Jammers performed all over the Twin Cities area playing for weddings, dances and in clubs for 30 plus years. He could tell you the name of a song, the artist who recorded it, on what label and the year it was recorded. His memory for music was unmatched. Ted had many interests. He loved to travel and his favorite food was fish which he would order for every lunch and dinner in a restaurant when traveling. He has been a productive employee in the work force all his adult life through supported employment programs. Another interest was Special Arts. His events were bowling, bocce ball and track and field events. If it was Special Olympics bowling season and we traveled somewhere, Ted made sure to find a bowling alley so his score sheet was complete. Ted won many medals and ribbons over the years, but a highlight was to be chosen for Very Special Olympics which took him to Washington D.C. where he played and sang. Camp Omega has been an important part of his summers for many years and in fact, he was very anxious just a few days ago to get this coming summer’s application turned in. “Teddy” had many friends and acquaintances in addition to his family, and he will be missed by all who knew him.
Ted is survived by his half -brother, James McBroom of Blaine, MN and cousins in Missouri, Texas and Minnesota.
Ted was preceded in death by his mother, father, grandparents, aunts and uncles.
A service will be held on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at Roseville Memorial Chapel (2245 North Hamline Avenue, Roseville, MN 55113) at 2pm with a one-hour visitation prior.
