Terry Bartz Obituary

Terry Bartz passed away unexpectedly, yet fittingly, in his beloved home in St. Paul.

Preceded in death by his father, John Bartz. Survived by his mother, Sharon Bartz; sisters, Cindy Bartz and Danny (Mark) Bigelbach; daughters Logen and Riley, nephews Brandon (Ryann) and Zach and many dear friends who became like family.

Terry was a proud St. Paul kid, and that identity remained at the heart of who he was throughout his life. He graduated from F.B. Kellogg High School, Gustavus Adolphus College, and Hamline Law, where he began building the foundation for an extraordinary career. During his college years, Terry pursued international studies and joined a rugby team abroad, which led to extensive travel, including experiences behind the Iron Curtain. His studies in international affairs broadened his perspective and gave him a deep appreciation for a world beyond St. Paul. Those experiences shaped his worldview, fueled his curiosity, and led to friendships and adventures that lasted a lifetime

After an accomplished career in law, Terry went on to find great success in corporate life, where he quickly established himself as a trusted executive and leader. Serving as COO, CEO, and President, he became known as a gifted strategist and sought-after turnaround consultant for several leading organizations. He brought sharp intellect, steady judgment, and a rare ability to inspire confidence in the people around him. What brought him the most fulfillment was mentoring others, guiding and inspiring with a combination of intellect, compassion, and humor.

Known for his spirited storytelling, Terry could hold a room effortlessly. His stories, most often told with wit, insight, and just the right amount of embellishment, became treasured traditions among those who knew him. A superb chef and gracious host, meals at Terry’s table were legendary, complete with culinary excellence, lively conversation, side-splitting laughter, and the warmth of genuine connection.

Terry will be remembered as a man who cared deeply for those around him. He had a rare ability to make others feel seen, valued, and included. Although “no” might have been his favorite word in theory, in practice he nearly always said “yes” — yes to helping, yes to showing up, yes to opening his home, and yes to making life more joyful.

Terry loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing in Alaska, as well as music. He celebrated his 65th birthday by attending a concert of his favorite band, The Eagles, at the Sphere in Las Vegas, an evening marked by equal parts music and mischief, perfectly emblematic of his vibrant spirit.

Terry lived with conviction, humor, and a profound sense of humanity. He held a deep faith that his soul would move on to its next chapter, and his loved ones take comfort in knowing it was cared for the instant he left this earth.

The world is a little less colorful without him, but far better for having had him.
