Sister Mary Denise Villaume, VHM, 85, of the Visitation Monastery in Mendota Heights, MN, departed this life on January 25th to be re-united, under God, with her family and the Sisters of the Visitation, the two loves of her life. She was born to Walter and Mary Osborne Villaume Foley, who named her Margaret Mary, and who preceded her in death, as did her stepfather Willard Foley, siblings, Walter, Eugene and Janet, her sister in law Mimi Mullin Villaume and her cousins Katherine “Tottie” Villaume Lilly, and Judith “Judy” Villaume Neumeier . She is survived by her sister in law Carolyn H, Villaume, her stepsisters, Katie Micheili (Pepe) , Ann Foley, nephews Walter F. Villaume III (Cynthia), Edward F. Villaume, Louis (Teri) Villaume, Andrew (Dianne) Villaume, and nieces Michèle Villaume-Driscoll (Ed) and Catherine Villaume O’Neill (Kevin), cousin Mary Jeanne Villaume McKee Bowen step nephews Alan and Charley Micheili, Adrian Foley and step nieces Angela Micheili and Kris Heinrich and many grand nephews and nieces.
She attended Visitation School in Saint Paul, and entered the Monastery there in 1957, receiving the name of Mary Denise. She devoted many years to teaching young children. Observers of her classes often marveled at the dignity she accorded to her three-year-old students. She loved and lived devotion to the Sacred Heart, which had been fostered by her baptismal patron, Saint Margaret Mary. Sister served her religious community as Superior for many years. We would like to thank all of the wonderful caregivers at Norris Square where when the convent closed sister came to live.
Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:30, on Wednesday, February 7. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 noon, Thursday, February 8, both at Visitation School in Mendota Heights. The funeral will be livestreamed at visitation.net/livestream. Memorials are preferred to Visitation School, 2455 Visitation Drive, Mendota Heights, MN 55120 or www.visitation.net/give.
