Shirley Jean Friberg, 88, of Roseville, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2026.
Shirley was born on October 20, 1937, in Shakopee, Minnesota, to Clara and Alvin Puff. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in Minneapolis and earned a degree in nursing from the University of Minnesota.
Her career began in traditional hospital nursing, and later she started her own business, becoming one of Minnesota’s first Certified Rehabilitation Nurses and disability management specialists — a true pioneer in her field.
Shirley shared with her husband a love of music, dance, travel, and gardening, and was an active member of the North American Rock Garden Society.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clara and Alvin Puff; her sisters, Glorene Mjoness and Marvel Holland; and her husband, Richard Friberg.
Shirley is survived by her children, Susan Brezny, Scott Friberg (Amy Florin, wife), and Ken Friberg; her grandchildren, Sam (Renee Barnett, wife), Alex, and Zoë Friberg; and her great-grandchildren, Lola and Enzo. She also leaves her niece, Nancy Perlich, and nephew, Mark Mjoness.
She will be remembered with love by her family and all who knew her.
Donations can be made to Saint Michaels Luther Church, Children’s Surgery International or Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
Services will take place on Thursday, March 19 at St. Michael Lutheran Church (1660 County B Rd W, Roseville, MN 55113) with the visitation at 10:00am and the funeral service beginning at 11:00am with lunch to follow.
