Sheila Smith Obituary

Sheila Ann Smith (née O’Connor) quietly passed away on 13 May, 2022. She is survived by her children Wally (Megan), Beth (Grant) Chadwick, Hart (Alexandra), and Kiley (Matt) Thompson.  In addition, Sheila is survived by her sisters, Cathy and Nora; as well as her grandchildren Colin, Fiona, Nora, Connor, Zandy, George, and Cooper.

She is preceded in death by her husband of fifty one years, Walter Joseph Smith, Jr (Captain, USMC); and her parents William and Nora (née Rose) O’Connor.

Sheila was a devoted and life-long resident of St. Paul.  She proudly attended Nativity of Our Lord before graduating high school at Visitation School.

Following studies at the University of Minnesota, Sheila relocated to Manhattan and met Captain Smith. After their courtship and marriage, they settled in Highland Park and raised their family.

Sheila loved her husband, children,  grandchildren, and extended family.  She had a rare talent and passion for needlepoint, which she exploited to the great benefit of her family and loved ones.

Sheila cherished spending time with her family and friends, telling stories, solving murder mysteries, playing gin rummy, beguiling her husband at Scrabble, and supporting her families’ activities.

She was an optimistic and encouraging presence to all who knew her and will always be loved and remembered by her friends and family.
