Menge, Sandra Anne Sorensen

We are sad to announce the death of Sandra Menge, 79 of St. Paul. She died peacefully on Monday, August 8, after a lengthy illness, surrounded by family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Helen, and is survived by husband Peter, sons Matt and Mark (Jinjer), grandson Samuel, and granddaughter Victoria, and sisters Mary Gray and Janet Allison (Leo), as well as numerous loving in-laws, nieces and nephews.

Sandy was born on Jan 20, 1943, in St. Paul to Lawrence and Helen Sorensen, and married Peter December 30, 1967. She was trained as an x-ray technician, and then graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in social work. She worked for many years providing social work care to patients at Walker Methodist and through Fairview Hospice, and as a conservator.

She was a tireless advocate for people with various challenges, and volunteered as a Befriender, and was a long-time board member with the MN chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), receiving their Lifetime Achievement Award.

A classic people person, she was always quick to make a friend, or make anyone feel welcome. She was a loving, devoted, and supportive wife, mother, and grandmother, and had an easygoing manner, and a mischievous grin that made her a joy to be around. She will be deeply missed.

A private funeral and celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Aug 20. Condolences can be sent to psmmenge@comcast.net.
