S. Edward Maehren “Eddie” of Mendota Hgts, MN Passed away peacefully on March 17, 2026 with both his daughters at his side. Preceded in death by his beloved wife MaryAnn Maehren (Schmitz), infant daughter Anna Jane and parents Sylvester & Imelda Maehren (Zapp). Survived by daughters Terra Barnes (Ron), Elizabeth Morice (Bill), grandchildren Steve Barnes (Jackie), Eddie Barnes (Chelci), and Sarah Goodrich (Mack), Will Morice (Jenni), Rachel Morice (Chris), Dan Morice and 6 great-grandchildren, his sister Jeanne Nordstrom and numerous dearly loved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Eddie was an outgoing, kind, and generous man who highly valued Faith, Family, and Friends. He was a loving husband to MaryAnn for 61 years and an incredible father and grosspapa. Eddie was an athlete and a well-known professional bowler. He had 7 perfect 300 games throughout his career, bowled on WCCO TV All Star Bowling (returning for 6 weeks after defeating nationally ranked professional bowlers), was a member of the Schmidt Brewing Champion Team, and earned numerous bowling awards and championships. He was inducted into the St. Paul Bowling Association’s Hall of Fame in 1970, The Minnesota Association’s Bowling Hall of Fame in 1991, and is a Nominee for The American Bowling Congress Hall of Fame.
Eddie’s love of bowling paved the way for his career in sporting goods sales. He began with co-ownership of Hi-Score Shop in St. Paul and later sold his portion of the business and went into independent work as a sporting goods sales representative for the five-state area. Since his childhood and growing up in St. Cloud near the Mississippi River, Eddie had a great love of nature. His love of the outdoors continued into his retirement years, spending much time on Lake Vermilion with MaryAnn and family. He loved to garden and was known for his delicious homegrown tomatoes.
Eddie was loved by all and known for making everyone feel cherished. He went out of his way to do small acts of kindness for others —cooking a favorite meal, showing up with a surprise, or reaching out to those in need. He was a big Minnesota sports fan and enjoyed talking sports around the bonfire. He will truly be missed.
