Be the first to offer your condolences on Roxanne's Tribute Wall
Roxanne passed away after a months-long battle with colon cancer. Always the creative director, she wrote her own obituary.
Proud wife, mother, and Nanna, Roxanne Sands was a vibrant, compassionate, and adventuresome woman. She was smart, funny, creative, and had a great sense of style. Entrepreneurial and active in several Twin Cities organizations she felt blessed with a full life yet she always had time for family and friends. She especially enjoyed art, golfing at Somerset, riding in her red convertible, her OLP (’58) and UM classmates, playing cards with “the girls”, and world travel. Roxanne was the oldest daughter in a large Irish/German Catholic family of four boys and four girls. Preceding her in death are her husband, Paul F. Sands (2004), parents, Harold T. Purtell and Ann (Frenzel) Purtell, brothers, Neil Purtell, DO, Kenneth Purtell, Harold R. Purtell, and Paul Purtell; sister Mary Catherine Purtell; and her loving companion, Russ Sudeith. Survivors include sisters, Angela (Jim, deceased) Goodrick and Allison Purtell, MD, of California; children: Valerie Sands, St. Paul; Michael (Suzette) Sands, Weekapaug, Rhode Island, cherished grandchildren Bridget, Liam, and Finn, several nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws. “Remember always, Nanna loves you.”
