Rose Hallgren Obituary

Rose Anne (Hanft) Hallgren, age 89, of St. Paul went home to be with her Lord and Savior on February 23, 2026. She was born May 28, 1936 in St. Paul, MN and graduated from Humbolt High School and the College of St. Catherines. She taught first grade out of college and later became a substitute teacher at Highland Catholic School. In 1960 she married Leander Hallgren. Her most cherished roles were being a wife and a mother to her two children, Joe and Anne. Rose loved to write, travel, cook and spend time with friends. She was actively involved in the Catholic Church, served selflessly in many roles and used every opportunity to share the love of Christ with others. Rose served as President of the Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women, as a board member and on many efforts to raise awareness of mental health issues through the Guild of Catholic Women. Her care for people and love of service led her to volunteer through 4-H, school, church, AccessAblity Inc., organizing neighborhood events and supporting Lee in his many endeavors. She was a faithful and loving servant to everyone. Rose launched and ran the Como Park Conservatory gift shop and worked on efforts to renovate the Como Conservatory. She attended courses at St. Thomas School of Journalism Which furthered her love for writing. Rose and Lee were guardians to Lee’s brother Ron all his life and they embraced him as part of their family. Up until the end Rose maintained her kindness, grace, compassion, appreciation of nature, love of family and friends, and expressed gratitude for her long life, full of wonderful and varied experiences. Rose brought joy to everyone she met in her final residence at St. Anthony Park Home where she was a bright light to many. Preceded in death by husband, Leander; parents, Clarice and Arthur Hanft; brother, Arthur; and sister Mary. Survived by children, Joseph (Suzan Zniewski) and Anne. A special thank you to the compassionate staff at St. Anthony Park Home for the wonderful care given to Rose in the past four years. Their dedication to every aspect of care for people is profound
