Robert "Bob" O'Neill, 96 years old, long-time resident of Janesville, Wisconsin died Thursday, February 27, 2025 at Lilydale Senior Living in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Robert was born on April 28, 1928 in Dorchester, Wisconsin to William and Marie (McDonald) O’Neill. He graduated from Janesville High School in 1947 and then joined the US Army in 1949. He served in Korea as company clerk and medic, earning two Bronze Stars for valor and the rank of Master Sergeant. Following his retirement from the military, Robert met the love of his life, Agnes Nauman and they were married on October 11, 1969, sharing 55 wonderful years together. As a resident of Janesville, he was a member of the American Legion Post 205, St. John Vianney parish and later St. Mary’s in Milton, WI. He co-founded a charity and food shelf ECHO (Everyone Cooperating Helping Others), assisted a family of Laotian refugees, sponsored a Cuban refugee and served as a hospice volunteer. He enjoyed helping friends and family in times of need, meeting for a cup of coffee at the local diner, traveling to Ireland, exercising at the Athletic Club, listening to classical music and spending time with family.
Bob is survived by his wife, Agnes, his two daughters, Kerry (Oz) Oliver and Erin (Manos) O’Neill, all of Minnesota, his granddaughters, Kaitlyn (Tyler) Barnes and their daughter Hazel Barnes of North Dakota, Ashley Oliver of Minnesota and Josie (Travis) Wellik of Tennessee. He is also survived by his siblings, Sr. Catherine O’Neill, FSPA and Gerald O’Neill, both of Wisconsin, as well as many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his siblings, John (Dorothy) O’Neill, Margaret (Fred) Fraunfelder, Eileen (Timothy) Casey, Genevieve (Frank) Austin, Fr. William O’Neill, CPPS, Mary (William) Halpin and Thomas O’Neill as well as his sister-in-law, Carol O’Neill.
The family would like to thank Lilydale Senior Living, Ecumen Hospice and the Minneapolis VA for their compassion and care. Mass of Christian Burial to be held at 11am on Saturday, April 12, 2025 at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception in Milton, WI with visitation beginning at 10am prior to Mass. Interment following Mass at Mt Olivet Cemetery in Janesville, WI with luncheon to follow at 1pm back at St. Mary’s in Milton.
