Robert "Bob" Allen Obituary

Bob Allen passed away on January 16, 2026, at the age of 89. Bob was born in Fairmont, MN. Following high school and a semester of college, Bob joined the army and proudly served his country for two years. On January 30, 1960, Bob married Dorothy, his high school sweetheart and the love of his life. Bob and Dorothy welcomed three children while Bob went to school in Mankato to get his teaching certificate. After two years teaching in LeRoy, MN, Bob and Dorothy moved their young family to Montgomery where Bob taught at the Montgomery-Lonsdale High School for 28 years. At Montgomery, Bob taught business courses, oversaw the co-op program, was the annual advisor, coached 7th and 8th grade football, and volunteered at many school activities. After retiring from teaching, Bob and Dorothy moved to Woodbury to be closer to their family.

As a teacher, Bob’s philosophy was to make each student realize their worth stating that each “student must be made to feel like ‘somebody.’” As such, he believed in the integrity and pride of each person and always treated everyone with respect. Bob was a generous, loyal and practical man with a wry sense of humor, and a deep devotion to family. For Bob, family was not just a word, it was a way of life. He loved being with his family whether it be on vacations or in the quiet moments telling a story or asking how you were doing. He was a life long lover of learning and could usually be found with a book in his hand. His favorite activities included camping, fishing, downhill and cross-country skiing and reading which he enjoyed sharing with his children and grandchildren. He also learned woodworking, calling himself a “wood butcher,” with numerous toys, ornaments and bookshelves coming out of his workshop.

Bob was always present for family events and appeared proudly at all the various activities of his children and grandchildren. In recent years, Bob enjoyed watching westerns, working on crypto quip or word finds, playing canasta with the in-laws, besting his wife in their daily cribbage game, and sneaking treats to the family dogs. His constant and supportive presence, the twinkle in his eye and his laughter will be greatly missed!

Bob is survived by Dorothy, his wife and constant companion of 66 years, along with children Tom (Shannon) of Rosemount, Jennifer of St. Paul, and Joni (John) of Woodbury, grandchildren Patty (Sean), David, Megan (William) Annie (Dave), and Jack (Darla); great grandchildren Lily, Tyson, Grace, and Luke, sisters Sue and Kate, 19 nieces and nephews, and numerous supportive in-laws. Bob is proceeded in death by his parents, Herbert and Lucille Allen, brothers Gary and Bill, and grandson Robbie, along with several in-laws, and a nephew. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, February 15th at O’Halloran & Murphy of Woodbury at Noon with visitation an hour prior and light lunch following the service. There will be a private internment ceremony at Fort Snelling Cemetery on a later date.

In lieu of flowers please make a donation to your local food shelf in honor of Bob or a donation to St. John’s Abbey in Collegeville, MN would be appreciated.
