Born 12-12-1932, passed away 02-05-2021,

Army Veteran. 

Died peacefully February 5th, 2021 at the VA - Mpls.

Robert was born December 12, 1932. He is preceded in death by his wife Rose, Parents, Charles and Nellie, Sister, Dorothy Ficocello, Brother, Charles Doane and granddaughter Rebekah Doane.

Robert is survived by his children Robert Doane JR. (Geri), Dennis Doane, Sheila Doane, Michelle Nelson, and Leo Doane.

Grandchildren: Ben Doane, (Jeanne), Rachel Mullee, (Kevin), Micah Doane, Karlena, Moni, Anna, Clea, Zoe, and Isabel-Rose. Great Grandchildren: Louie, Joseph, Emma-Rose, and Samuel.

Sisters: Mary Lou Todora, Nancy, (Dennis) Denning, and Patsy McDonald.

Brothers: Donald Doane and George Ficocello.

Sister in laws: Jean Doane, Renie Molitor, brothers in law: Dr. Thomas Weir, Dennis, (Shirley) Dolan and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Robert graduated high school from the Mechanic Arts High School and later graduated college from the College of Saint Thomas. While in college, he became a member of the diving team. He won the MIAC championship for diving in his junior year. He received a draft notice to serve in the arm forces (the Korean War conflict- Army Veteran), which interrupted his senior year in college. Fortunately, he was able to continue diving while serving.  In fact, he fell just short of making the Olympic diving team but was 1st alternate.  Eventually he finished his College education at St. Thomas and in his senior year, he won the MIAC championship for diving a second time. He graduated and earned his education degree and later began his lifelong teaching career.  

Robert met the love of his life, Rose; they married and had five children, which he would say were his greatest accomplishment.  Second only to raising a big family, teaching and coaching at Nativity Grade school in Saint Paul, for 35 years, (1958-1994) also became great achievements.  During his time at Nativity School, he also became the Athletic Director.  He also developed the girls’ sports programs, which were nonexistent, back in the 60’s and 70’s. 

Robert enjoyed his summer vacations with his family at his cabin. He also owned and operated a successful concrete business in his younger years. He enjoyed making Christmas Wreaths at Evergreen in the fall and making these wreaths for family and friends for many years gave him much joy. He was a loyal-faithful family man who loved his family, siblings and friends.  Robert was a kind, generous man who would give you the shirt off his back. He had a heart for Jesus and was ready to go to his heavenly home.

Mass of Christian Burial, 10 AM, Friday, February, 19, 2021 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Randolph Ave. Interment Resurrection Cemetery, In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred.
