Richard Rivest Obituary

Richard Maurice Rivest, 70, formally of Dollar Bay passed away at his home in Cottage Grove, MN, on October 1, 2025. Richard was born on January 4, 1955 in Laurium to the late Shirley (Roberts) and David Rivest. He grew up in Tamarack City and graduated from Dollar Bay High School. He served in the Navy for 3 years from 1972 to 1975.

He married Sherry Puska on October 24, 1981, and parted ways on July 10, 2020.

Rick “Riv” served his community for 23 years in law enforcement starting at the South Range police department. He then worked for the Houghton County Sheriff’s Department and Calumet Police Department. He retired as a sergeant from the Houghton County Sheriff’s department. During his retirement, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. 

Rick was preceded in death by his parents Shirley (Roberts) and David Rivest. He is survived by:Children: Tracey (Corey) Aittama, Stephanie (Andrew) Wheeler, Krystle Rivest, and Richard (Vanessa) Rivest.  Grandchildren: Madelyn Aittama, Camden Rouleau, Tristan Erickson, Camila Rivest and Estella Rivest. Siblings: Bruce Rivest and Sandra Baillargeon and also his 5 nieces.

A private church service will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2025, in Woodbury, MN. A private graveside service will be held at a later date at Mt. Calvary in Lake Linden, MI, where Rick will be laid to rest with his parents. 

The O'Halloran & Murphy Funeral home in Woodbury, Minnesota is assisting with the arrangements.
