Ray Anthony Anfang died on May 9, 2025, at the age of 89.
Born on May 5, 1936, Ray was raised in the Merriam Park neighborhood of Saint Paul, Minnesota, baptized and confirmed at the Church of Saint Mark, attended Saint Mark’s School (Class of 1950), and Cretin High School (Class of 1954).
Ray enlisted in the Army in 1956 and served as a Chief Warrant Officer and COMSEC Officer with overseas tours in Iran, Vietnam, Turkey, and Germany. He possessed an unswerving dedication to duty, received the Bronze Star, and retired in 1986 after 30 years of service with the rank of CW3.
After retiring, he settled in the Highland neighborhood of Saint Paul, became a parishioner of Assumption Church where he attended weekly Mass and enjoyed the fellowship of other parishioners. He volunteered as a Saint Paul Neighborhood Assistance Officer, was an avid book reader, enjoyed wood working, gardening with his daughter, and feeding birds. He also had a keen interest in genealogy and was qualified to become a lifetime member of the Minnesota Territorial Pioneers and served on their board.
Preceded in death by his wife of 20 years, Patricia (nee Lentz); parents, Wilfred and Joy Anfang; sister Joy Steveken, and brother‑in‑law Frederick Steveken.
Survived by daughter Katherine “Kathi” Koran (Don); grandchildren Nicholas and Hannah Koran; siblings Wilfred Anfang and Mary (William) Casebolt; nieces Joy Steveken and Emilie Casebolt, and nephew, Alexander Casebolt.
Mass of Christian Burial 10am Wednesday, May 21 at Church of the Assumption, 51 W. 7th St., St. Paul with visitation one hour prior to mass. Interment with Military Honors will take place 10am Thursday, June 12 at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Please arrive to Assembly Area #4 by 9:45am.
