Paul A. Bernabei

Paul Bernabei, age 77, of Dalzell, Illinois passed away peacefully August 31, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Dear husband of 50 years to Paula Bernabei, née Doherty and adored father to Megan Haughey (Matt), Molly Fenlon (Judd), Katie Fenlon (Bob) and Maripat Giefer (Mike). Proud grandpa to Kate, Joe and Ellie Haughey; Jack, Caroline, Emily and Maggie Fenlon; Joe, Charlie, Matt and Emma Fenlon; and Matt, Isla and Michael Giefer. Preceded in death by his parents Chester and Toni, father and mother-in-law, John and Paula Doherty. Paul came to Minnesota in 1965 to play basketball at St. John’s University and spent the past 5+ decades pursuing his lifelong passion of education, coaching and training. Paul was a diehard Cubs fan who lived to see them win a World Series in 2016. He rarely missed his grandkids’ sports activities and spent countless hours driving to ballfields, gyms and rinks throughout the Midwest. The visitation will be held Saturday September 7th, at 10:00 AM at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church in St. Paul, MN followed by the funeral at 11:00 AM. Private Family Burial. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Our Lady of Peace Hospice in St. Paul, MN or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
