Nancy grew up in Winona Minnesota with pigtails and blonde hair. She attended Cotter High School, graduated, and went on to Winona State College. She graduated with an associate degree in business in 1970. She then left home and travelled to the Twin Cities, where she applied for and got a job in the General Biology program at the University of Minnesota. Nancy quickly made friends with and had great respect for students, professors, janitors, and bus drivers. Nancy loved meeting all kinds of different people. In 1971, Nancy and her roommates went to a club in St. Paul where she met a guy named Mike. He was fresh out of the Navy. They seemed to hit it off. They were married in June of 1973. Nancy went on to work at the U of M for the next 43 years. Her husband Mike worked for 41 years at a local landscape company. Together they raised two boys and lived in the Como Park area for over 40 years. In the spring of 2013 Nancy retired from the University of Minnesota. Mike retired that same year. Early in their retirement they enjoyed wintering in Arizona in their travel trailer. Her oldest son Jared and his wife Jennifer have two children; Jameson and Jensen.
