Michael Stevenson Obituary

Michael Fredrich Stevenson, 61, entered into Eternal Rest on December 17, 2025 in St. Paul, MN, surrounded by his loving family, after a final battle with Stage 5 Kidney Disease just one day before his birthday, prepared for the journey by his unwavering faith and the Sacraments of the Church. He joins his dear wife Patricia of 35 years in heaven, who undoubtedly met him with a birthday celebration unlike any other.
Michael, better known as Mike, was born December 18, 1963 to Roland and Paula (Faber) Stevenson in Detroit, MI, the second of their five children. He was deeply involved in sports from a young age and competed in basketball and baseball at Bishop Gallagher High School, later being inducted into their Hall of Fame. At his time at Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, MI, he was awarded the Joe Baker award for his excellence in academics, athleticism, and community work. Following his time at Aquinas College and with his outgoing and enthusiastic personality, he began a career in sales and account management for the Detroit Red Wings, a job which provided endless stories and experiences that are fondly remembered by friends and family. Following his initial career, he continued building his love of connecting with people with successive careers in sales, marketing, and logistics management with Central Transport and Detroit Edison, finally landing as Logistics Manager with LPS in Minnesota for over 18 years.
Mike met the love of his life, Patricia “Patty” (O’Brien), when she was returning home from college break in 1984, and married on November 18, 1988. Mike would always call Patty “the pot of gold at the end of his rainbow.” They made their home together in the Detroit area, themselves welcoming five beautiful, faithful, and driven children into the world. Centered in his love for the Lord, Mike’s family was his world. He was a virtuous and loving husband and father who continuously lived a life of self-sacrifice for the good of those he loved. Mike and Patty moved to Woodbury, MN where they met lifelong friends and resided until their passing.
Mike was diagnosed with Stage 5 Kidney Disease in 2016 and dependent on dialysis while on the kidney transplant list. Although he never received a kidney, he in turn provided everyone he met with an inspiring example of offering suffering to the Lord and always having a positive outlook - no matter the circumstances. Following his retirement and with his wife by his side, he more fully enjoyed his favorite title of all: Poppi (grandpa). Anyone who met Mike instantly became a friend and was captivated by his countless stories and acts of kindness. He was selfless to the core and was continually considering the needs of others. When you had a conversation with Mike, you were the center of his attention - he was one of the most present souls around. But at the end of every encounter, it would be unsurprising if he did not take a moment to talk about how proud he was of his kids, grandchildren, and his incredible wife Patty, who passed away just last year in August 2024 from Stage 4 Lung Cancer.
Michael/Mike/Zamike/Poppi will be remembered for his love of family, faith, Notre Dame and Detroit Lions Football, Detroit Tigers Baseball, and ultimately as a model of what sacrificial love in action truly looks like. He leaves behind his five children Sean (Allison) Stevenson of Maplewood, MN, Michael Stevenson of Bloomington, MN, Matthew (Emily) Stevenson of Glasgow, MT, Shanna (Christopher) Riedman of Bismarck, ND, and Maura (Mason) Dreger of Woodbury, MN. He spoke with pride and joy of his eight grandchildren Monica, Nicholas, Benjamin, Margaret, Ronan, Clare, Augustine, and Charlotte. Mike also leaves his mother Paula, his siblings Sue (Luke) Jenkins, David (Julie) Stevenson, Shelly (Russ) Miller, his nieces Shelby, Emily, Jordan, Jacqueline, and nephews Montana, Noah, and Jack.
He is welcomed into Eternal Rest by his wife Patricia, infant brother Paul, and father Roland.
Eternal Rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul, and all the souls of the faithful departed through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated December 23rd at 11:00 AM at St. Ambrose Catholic Church (4125 Woodbury Dr., Woodbury). Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the Funeral Mass. Visitation will be held on December 22nd from 4-7 PM with a Rosary and Vigil Service at 6:30 PM at O’Halloran & Murphy Funeral Chapel (8700 Valley Creek Rd., Woodbury). Interment will follow with family.
