Mary Lou (Gorka) Alfveby

Age 87 of Roseville passed away surrounded by her family on September 1, 2022.  Preceded in death by her parents John and Cecelia Gorka, husband Jim, son Joe, daughter Cris, sisters Gloria and Bonnie, brothers Clifford, Jerry and Fred; Survived by her sister Kathy Byrne (John); sisters-in-law Barb Gorka, Joan Gorka, and Kathleen McGraw; daughters Theresa Ray (Steve) and Mary Randall (Grady); sons John (Holly) and Bill (Prashanthi); son-in-law Tab Williams; Grand-children: Ryan, Nick, Kalee, Katie, Megan, Jimmy, Christopher, Dominick, Daniel, Ananya, and Pravin. Great-grandchildren: Taylor, Nathan, Rylee, Lyla, and Annie.

MaryLou was raised in Roseville and attended Saint Rose of Lima Grade School and Central High School in St. Paul.  She was active in the Catholic Youth Center in St. Paul where she met her husband, Jim.

MaryLou worked for the Catholic Digest, Sholom Home nursing home, and Minnesota Mutual (Securian) from where she retired in 1999.  Her most valued jobs were raising her family and serving her church and community through multiple volunteer roles including the Holy Childhood Women’s Club, Council of Catholic Women, serving parish funeral lunches, and volunteering at Lyngblomsten Nursing Home.  Her expertise in many crafts, including knitting, sewing, crocheting, and baking, made many people happy.  She brought her kindness, generosity and warmth to everything she did for her family, church, and community.

Funeral services will be held 10am October 21, 2022, at Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church. A public visitation will be held an hour prior.

Memorials in lieu of flowers preferred:  Our Lady of Peace Hospice Care Center, St. Rose of Lima Church, or Women’s Life Care Center.
