Mary Ellen Walker, 61, of Saint Paul, died peacefully the morning of January 8, 2026. She was the youngest of a large, loving family. Preceding her in death were her parents – Herb (1991) and Mary Jean (2000) – and three brothers – Dennis (1983), Patrick (2006), and Steve (2023). She is survived by three brothers – Vince (Kate Bishop), Greg (Janine Dahms), and Chris (Connie Hammarsten) – and sister-in-law Mary Walker Buchanan (Scott).
Mary Ellen shared a special bond with her nieces (2), nephews (5), grandniece, and grandnephews (5 + 1 on the way). Together, they built treasured memories through Mary Ellen’s love of Disney, Peanuts, movie nights, and baking.
Mary Ellen’s quick wit and zest for life earned her many friends and kept everyone around her entertained. As an expert seamstress, Mary Ellen’s creative spirit was thoughtfully expressed through the clothes, blankets, quilts, and church vestments she sewed for family and friends. She loved taking road trips with her mother to visit historic sites. In particular, they went to Split Rock Lighthouse on the north shore of Lake Superior many times. It held a very special place in her heart.
A lifelong resident of Saint Paul, Mary Ellen attended Regina High School and St. Catherine University. She volunteered at Lumen Christi Catholic Community before her health declined.
For the past seven years, Mary Ellen was a beloved resident of Highland Chateau, where the staff treated her like family. The Walkers extend their heartfelt thanks to them and to the team from Lake Valley Hospice who supported Mary Ellen to a peaceful end.

Mass of Christian Burial 10AM, Tuesday, March 24, at Lumen Christi Catholic Church (2055 Bohland Ave, St. Paul). Visitation beginning 1 hour prior to Mass Tuesday at church. Please plan to wear red, Mary Ellen’s favorite color. Interment, Resurrection Cemetery.
