MaryAnn Maehren Obituary

Maehren, MaryAnn N. (nee:Schmitz) age 86 of Mendota Heights, passed away peacefully on December 1st following a long battle with Lewy Body Dementia. Preceded in death by infant daughter, Anna Jane and parents, Clemens and Annette Schmitz. Survived by her husband of 61 years, Eddie; daughters, Terra Barnes (Ron) and Elizabeth Morice (Bill); grandchildren Steven Barnes (Jackie), Eddie Barnes (Chelci) and Sarah Goodrich (Mack), Will, Rachel and Daniel Morice; great grandchildren Mila, Harrison and Bennett; brother Jim Schmitz (Rosie), sisters Jane Weidner, Joan Wiik (Alf) and Liz Dahlstrom (Kirk) and numerous dearly loved nieces , nephews, cousins and friends. MaryAnn was a generous and faith filled Catholic woman and a cherished wife, mother and grandmother. She had many talents and gifts; her education and careers included studying at the MacPhail Center for Music, earning her cosmetology license and working at Joan’s Beauty Salon, and later becoming a successful real estate agent. MaryAnn was an entertainer at heart; and was one of the singing Schmitz Sisters, MaryAnn, Jane and Joan. The trio was a favorite here in the Twin Cities and appeared regularly in the Flame Room at the Radisson Hotel. They went on to the national stage including the Arthur Godfrey Show, Guy Lombardo at the Desert Inn and performed with Al Hirt at the Palmer House in Chicago. MaryAnn loved to play the piano, guitar, banjo and ukulele. But perhaps MaryAnn’s greatest gift was her uncanny ability to lift everyone’s spirits and make anyone she met feel like the most important person in the room. She is dearly loved and will be forever remembered and missed.
