Soule’, Mary Alice
With hearts full of love and gratitude, we celebrate the incredible life of Mary Alice Soule’—beloved wife, mom, grandma, great-grandma, and friend—who passed away peacefully on April 28, surrounded by her adoring husband Joseph and her cherished family.
Born in South Minneapolis to Einar and Emily (Wasilowski) Nelson, Mary graduated from Roosevelt High School, Class of 1961, and quickly became known for her warmth, humor, and the kind of honesty that only someone with a heart of gold can pull off. She first married Jon Blackstone in 1962, and together they raised four spirited children: Jon Jr., Michael (Jennifer), Lori (Curtis) Hall, and Lisa (Charlie) Blackstone.
Mary’s legacy lives on in her 12 grandchildren—Joshua, Mary Frances, Madeline (Ryan), Trevor, Ted, Charles (Macy), Dan (Ashley), Samson, Tom, Allison, Emma Rose (Kade), and Ramsey—and her seven great-grandchildren: Nevaeh, Ivy, Lincoln, Lyla, Rachel, Dallas, and Maxwell. She was preceded in passing by her parents, her granddaughter Mary Frances, and her brothers James and Thomas.
In 1993, Mary married Joseph Soule’. For 32 beautiful years, they were the ultimate team—travel buddies, dance partners, and best friends. Together, they shared unforgettable adventures in Mexico, Florida, and the Southwest, and laughter-filled memories with dear friends Gerrie, Gary, Terry, and Kris.
Mary’s career as an administrative assistant at Sperry Univac/UNISYS and Guidant/Boston Scientific showcased her impeccable organization and sharp wit—but her most treasured role was being the heart of her family. Known to neighborhood kids as “Mrs. B” and to those closest as “Queen Mary,” she brought magic to every gathering. From legendary Christmas games to Easter egg hunts and March birthday extravaganza. Mary knew how to make people feel seen, special, and thoroughly celebrated.
She had a quick wit, a big laugh, and an even bigger heart. She remembered every birthday and anniversary, made every holiday sparkle, and lit up every room she entered. If you knew Mary, you probably have a story that ends in laughter—and maybe a reminder to "go easy," her signature sign-off from above.
A joyful Celebration of Life will be held on May 10 from 1–4 pm at AMIRA Roseville (2650 Lexington Ave N). In honor of Mary’s generous spirit, memorials are preferred to Second Harvest Heartland at 2harvest.org/ways-to-give.
Let’s carry forward her laughter, love, and fabulous spirit that she shared with us all.
