Mary Alice Lacho (Desmond) passed away peacefully on January 13th, 2021 surrounded by family. Mary was born October 1st, 1925 to Rose and Andrew Desmond in St Paul MN.
Preceded in death by Donald, her husband of 62 years, siblings Grace Moran, Kathleen Stead and Thomas Desmond, and son-in-law Jonathan Schufman.
Survived by children Rebecca (Fred) Peterson, Jonathan (Mary) Lacho, Claudia Schufman, Amy (Ken) Melchior and 5 grandchildren Kaitlyn, Megan, Brian, Evan and Joseph.
Mary grew up on the East side of St Paul on White Bear Avenue, attended Blessed Sacrament Grade School and graduated from Harding High School. After graduation, Mary worked as a secretary for St Paul Fire and Marine Insurance. Mary soon met the love of her life Don and they married in 1952. Together they raised four children while living in St. Paul. When Mary re-entered the workforce, she worked for the Prest Company and then for the State of Minnesota Department of Revenue. Retirement brought them to their country home in Afton, following extensive remodeling where they lived out their years together in the beautiful countryside.
Mary was a compassionate, social and family centered woman. You could talk with her for hours on the porch, over a meal or in front of the fireplace. She was an enthusiastic supporter of the St Paul Chamber Orchestra as well as a generous contributor to her many long-standing charities. Mary had a wonderful life full of joy and sharing. She was very much loved and will be greatly missed.
Many thanks go to Lakeview Hospice for their dedication and skill this past year. Gratitude is also extended to Comfort Keepers (Inver Grove) for their gentle and special care.
