Mary Patricia "Jess" Buivid

BUIVID Mary Patricia, Age 77, of St. Paul, MN, formerly of North St. Paul, MN, died on Monday, January 26, 2026, at home of natural causes.

Mary "Jess" was born to Genevieve "Gess" and Daniel Buivid in St. Paul, MN on April 29, 1948. She attended Saint Peter's Catholic School, then attended Archbishop Murray Memorial High School, graduating in 1966 (now Hill-Murray High School). After graduation, Mary attended the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities campus for two years, developing an interest in writing and political science. She left the U of M and found enjoyment in traveling, especially to Eastern Europe.

Mary settled in the St. Paul Highland Park area, and over her years there, met kind, wonderful friends, and neighbors. She was fiercely independent, loyal, and generous. 

She studied and grew her knowledge of rocks & minerals and enjoyed teaching her nieces and nephews what their "pretty rocks" really were. She loved the sea, tall ships, her cats, creative writing, and reading her ever-growing book collection. Lastly, nobody wrapped a gift more beautifully than Mary-which included velvet ribbon and fresh flowers. Mary went on to work for over 21 years at the Lunds & Byerlys Highland Park location.

Mary is preceded in death by parents Daniel and Genevieve Buivid and nephew Bryan Buivid. 

Mary is survived by her brother Daniel (Lynne) Buivid, her sister Jackie (Gerald) Peters, several nieces and nephews, and grand-nieces and nephews. 

A visitation to honor Mary's life will be held on Tuesday, February 10 from 5-7pm located at O'Halloran and Murphy Funeral Home 575 Snelling Avenue, St. Paul, MN 55116.
