Margaret "Peggy" McLaughlin Obituary

McLaughlin, Margaret E. "Peggy" (nee Kugler), age 83 of Edina, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend passed away after a courageous fight on November 30th, her 55th wedding anniversary.

A proud Saint Paul native, Peggy graduated from the Convent of the Visitation, a community that would play a central role in her life for nearly eight decades. She and her sisters – oldest Kate and “wombmate” Patsy – were inseparable and passed on to their children a deep, abiding love of family.

Peggy loved bright, beautiful, things: flowers, clothes, home décor. She loved and took a keen interest in people’s lives and spent hours on the phone catching up with her sisters, family, and friends. She was fiercely loyal, quick witted, and always had a twinkle in her beautiful, blue eyes.

After Vis, Peggy became a “rootin’ tootin’ Newton girl,” attending Newton College of the Sacred Heart. She taught first grade for seven years, leaving to take on the role she was born to play: that of doting mother. For the next 53 years of her life, she devoted every fiber of her being to her children and grandchildren. She adored her kids, grandkids, nieces, and nephews. And they adored her.

Peggy loved to have a good time. She would spend hours at lunch with friends and dinner parties were hours long affairs filled with laughter. She and her “Philsie” traveled the world and had friends in every corner of the globe. But she was always happiest at home, surrounded by family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Alexius and Catherine Kugler and sister, Kate Weyrens. She is survived by her husband, Phil; children, Pastor Meagan (Karen), Philip (Gail) and Kevin, grandchildren, Eli, Noah and Eliza; twin sister, Patsy Tracy (John) and numerous nieces, nephews and lifelong friends who were family.

Mass of Christian Burial at 11am on Tuesday, December 12th at Pax Christi Catholic Church,12100 Pioneer Trail, Eden Prairie with visitation at 10am, one hour prior to the mass.

In honor of Peggy’s love of bright, beautiful things, attendees are encouraged to eschew – or at least spice up – their black attire with something colorful for the service.

Memorials preferred to The Peggy Kugler McLaughlin Scholarship Fund at Visitation School, 2455 Visitation Dr., Mendota Heights, MN 55120 or the Visitation Monastery of Minneapolis, 1615 Fremont Ave N, Minneapolis, MN.
