ge 70, of St. Paul Passed away in St. Paul on March 31, 2021, surrounded by family. He was born on February 1, 1951, in Albert Lea, MN. In 1990, he married Patricia Cervantes in Irvine Park in St. Paul. After graduating from St. Paul's Harding High School and then Macalester, he worked at the Neighborhood Justice Center. He graduated from law school in 1980 and became an attorney at the AFL-CIO. In 1986, he was appointed to be a judge on the Minnesota Workers' Compensation. From 1992-2002 he was a referee in Ramsey County District Court, presiding over cases in family, juvenile, domestic abuse court. He was named as St. Paul City Attorney and state administrative law judge. In 2018, Minnesota State Bar Association presented Cervantes with the Rosalie E. Wahl Judicial Award of Excellence for his outstanding work as a judge and for improving the state's quality of justice. Cervantes served as a youth soccer coach and mentor to youth at Humboldt High School. He was an avid motorcyclist who went on cross country trips with his brother and friends. He enjoyed soccer and played well into his 60s. He would often swim a mile during his lunch break at Macalester pool.
His memory will be cherished and kept alive by his wife, Patricia; children, Corinna Cragg, Jeff Cragg (Lisa), Nicole Herrmann (Jaymik), Manuel Jose Cervantes (Alexandra) and Sebastiana Cervantes; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild. Manuel is also survived by siblings, Raquel Cervantes-Bethke, Ramona Hernandez, Jose Cervantes, Guadalupe Cervantes, Juan Cervantes and Ricardo Cervantes. He is preceded in death by his parents, Maria del Carmen Cervantes, Elidio R. Cervantes. Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 11, from 1PM-3PM, at O'Halloran and Murphy Funeral Home (575 Snelling Ave. S., St. Paul).
