Loren Albin Obituary

He was a quiet man of many talents, a kind and loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, son and friend. Born in Topeka, KS, he graduated from Belleville High School, completed his AA from Cloud County Community College, his BS in Chemistry from U of KS, and his PhD in Organic Chemistry from UW-Madison. He worked in industry and has 7 patents. In his second career, he found he enjoyed helping other inventors by writing their patents. He went back to school and received his JD from William Mitchell and became a patent attorney for Mueting & Raasch in Minneapolis.

He shared his love of travel and adventure with his children Rita and Greg. They rode bike, doing events like MN Ironman and the Weekend on Wheels. And, with his parents, they made several trips around the US by van, seeing natural wonders and visiting extended family.

He was always active, he ran dozens of marathons and 50ks, hiked on all the continents except Antarctica, rode thousands of miles on his bicycle. After he retired, in 2018 he did a "ride across the US" from San Diego, CA to St. Augustine, FL, on bicycle. He made a bunch of new friends (he called them his new family), who were equally passionate about bike riding and the challenge to accomplish something more. Also after retirement, he started volunteering at various citizen science projects by doing bird watching (eBird) and bird banding. Joining two of his passions of traveling and bird watching, his "life list" recently reached 2000 birds.

He valued fun family time and enjoyed attending his granddaughter Isabella’s theatre performances, taking her out for nature hikes, and many relaxed dinners on patios with his daughter Rita Krannich, her husband Ansel, granddaughter Isabella, and his wife Pam.

He is survived by his wife, 2 children, 7 grandchildren, a brother and his wife, along with many nieces/nephews and extended family. Preceded in death by parents and a brother.
