Lois Marrinan (Rasmussen)
of St. Paul. 1928-2023.
Lois Marrinan (Rasmussen) was born in St. Paul in 1928 to Walter and Harriet Rasmussen. She went to high school at St. Joseph’s Academy and then the College of St. Catherine for English with a minor in Physical Education. After a brief stint as a teacher, she married Robert Marrinan in 1951. With a firm commitment to their Irish Catholic roots, they bravely took on the challenge of raising a whopping nine children!
Lois was soft-spoken but resolute, had an enthusiasm for life and a quick wit. She had an incredible knack for keeping the order and the household running smoothly despite Bob’s frequent work trips. Some of her favorite moments and the best family memories included lots of camping, time spent at cabins, trips to the property on the Kettle River, and the grand family adventure for a summer in New York. Her greatest joys were her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, but she always found time to care for herself and balance her interests. She exercised at the YMCA (the “Y”) three times per week for over fifty years, made great use of the public libraries, and enjoyed opportunities for live performances. Her spirit of adventure led her to travel the world with friends and family visiting dozens of countries and making over 20 trips to Alaska. Lois cherished friends from school as well as her bible study group. Despite being diagnosed with Parkinsin’s disease in her early seventies, she never let it define who she was, continuing to travel, exercise and enjoy life, determined to continue doing all the things she loved. Lois loved any good party and didn’t like to miss out and we are so honored to celebrate her today.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Bill and Fr. Harry; her husband, Bob; her daughter, Jane. She is survived by her sister, Mary Scanlan (Tim), sister-in-law, Jo Rasmussen; and descendants:
