Lois Burnes Obituary

Originally from Minneapolis, MN, Lois Virginia (Straka) Burnes was the only child of Alice and Eugene Straka.  Lois met her future husband, Clinton (Bud), at Olivet Church in Minneapolis and they were married in October of 1950.  Shortly after their marriage, Bud joined the Air Force and they moved to Biloxi, MS.  While living in Biloxi, their son, Greg, was born. The family returned to Bloomington, MN where they raised their family, which would include another son, Todd, and a daughter, Jennifer.

Lois was a wonderful and loving mother and wife. She was a compassionate person that loved and valued family, friends, strangers and animals. She brought joy to the elderly at various facilities through her volunteering. She was a creative and talented painter, loved gardening, reading, her pets and traveling. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She was an active member of Oak Grove Presbyterian Church.

Lois is preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Clinton (Bud) Burnes. Lois is survived by her children Greg (Mary), Todd (Patricia), Jennifer (Brad) Plaman; grandchildren Benjamin (Christine) Burnes, Elizabeth (Kiah) Smith, Andrew (Jaime) Burnes, Laura Burnes, Bailey Plaman, Alyson Plaman; great-grandchildren Gus and Clark Smith and Jonathan Burnes and her cousin Joann Johnson.  She will be truly missed by all.

The family would like to sincerely thank the staff at St. Andrews and Orchard Path Presbyterian Homes for the incredible care and comfort they’ve provided for Lois.

Due to the health crisis, we are not planning a visitation or public funeral.  However, when it is safe, we will hold a celebration of Lois’s life.
