Leo Carl Schwintek
Age 70, Beloved husband, father, and grandfather. Born December 11, 1950 in St. Paul, MN and died September 11, 2021 surrounded by family. Affectionately known as, “The Big Guy,” Leo had many passions in life. Among them were golfing, cooking, travel, expert carpentry, and hosting many gatherings at his self-built basement bar – for many years at his cherished home on the East Side. Leo was an undefeated member of the Harding High School wrestling team, served in the National Guard, became an entrepreneur and small business owner of Mobile Sharpening Service, and retired as a longtime MTC bus driver #751. To all these ventures, Leo brought an outgoing sense of humor and true zest for life. Leo would say his greatest accomplishment was the life he built with his high school sweetheart and wife, Maureen, of 48 years. Leo was preceded in death by his parents, Del and Betty Schwintek; sisters Judith Wilhelmy and Rita Paulson; and grandsons Nicholas Mooney and Mathew Wilhelmy. He is survived by his cherished wife, Maureen Schwintek; siblings, Audrey Hanson (Pete), and Kathy Berglof (Ed). Proud father of children Jerome Wilhelmy (Sheryl) and Jacqueline Garofalo; adored Papa to grandchildren Whitley Richey, Paige Rozír, Abbie Mooney, Jake Wilhlemy, Luci and Tony Garofalo, and seven great-grandchildren; Brother-in-law and best friend of Jack Berney (Lesley) and Kathy Berney; uncle to many nieces, nephews, and a dear friend and neighbor to many. Mass of Christian Burial, Thurs, 9/30, 11AM, with visitation at 10AM, at Guardian Angels Catholic Church, 8260 4th St. N., Oakdale, MN 55128. Luncheon to follow Mass.
