Kevin Geraghty age 43 passed away on March 14 after a 3 1/2-year courageous battle with ALS. He is preceded in death by his grandparents James & Irene Geraghty, Richard & Evelyn Myler, father-in-law Steve Gillam and sweet dog, Bob. He is survived by his beloved wife Tessa, parents Mike & Joan, sisters Meghan Schuirmann (Chad), Molly Contreras (Domingo), mother-in-law Jan Gillam, brother-in-law Nick Gillam (Chelsea), nieces Evelyn & Sophia Schuirmann and nephews Domingo Contreras, Myles, Otis and Sunny Gillam and many aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends.
Kevin grew up in Mendota Heights, MN and attended St Joseph’s Catholic school in West St. Paul (’96), St Thomas Academy (‘00) and the University of St Thomas (’04). Growing up sports were everything to Kevin. He played football, hockey and baseball with football being his greatest passion. Kevin always said that he was grateful for all of the opportunities that sports provided him including his lifelong friendships.
Kevin enjoyed a successful career in medical device sales which took him all over the world, including living abroad in Hamburg, Germany for 2.5 years. It was also through his career and a mutual colleague he met the love of his life, Tessa. Kevin and Tessa enjoyed a wonderful life full of friends, family, travel and their favorite hobby: golf.
After his diagnosis in Jan 2022 Kevin and Tessa immersed themselves in the ALS community & research. Kevin participated in multiple clinical trials, volunteered his time sharing his experience on patient advisory boards, and supported other newly diagnosed ALS warriors. Kevin and Tessa co-chaired “A Love Story” Gala in 2023 which raised over $800,000 for ALS research. Kevin made the brave decision to donate his brain and spinal tissue to Harvard Brain Tissue Resource Center for continued study of neurological diseases. We could not be more proud of him.
The family is grateful to those who cared for Kevin: Dr. Samuel Maiser at Hennepin Healthcare, Stephanie Berends, Rachelle Piram, Molly Hottinger, Beth Allen, Fr. John Malone, and ALS TDI. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to www.als.net in Kevin Geraghty’s name. For more information about Kevin’s journey please check out www.geraghtyfightsals.com.
