Kenneth Herriges Obituary

Kenneth “Ken” Herriges age 97 of St. Paul, Minnesota

Ken, age 97, passed away peacefully, at home, surrounded by his loving family. Ken was born November 8th, 1928, in Barton, Wisconsin to Fred and Alma (Demester) Herriges. He was preceded in death by his parents, beloved daughter Susan Splinter, siblings and in laws, Shirley (Bill) Schmidt, Lois (Jim) Burns, son in law Tom Sexton. Ken is survived by His loving wife Mary Elizabeth (Betty), daughters Monica (Tom) Evon, Carol Sexton, Mary Beth (David) Johnson, son in law Tom (Leanne) Splinter, 11 grandchildren, and 18 great grandchildren.

Ken’s family moved when he was a young child to St. Paul, Mn, and he lived there his whole life. He graduated from Cretin High School at 16 years of age, joined the Army, and was stationed in Korea.  Following the Army, Ken graduated from Minnesota Business College and began his lifelong career in the floor covering industry. He met the love of his life Betty, in 1951.  They happily raised their four daughters in St. Paul, MN. Ken and Betty were blessed with 73 years of marriage and their life of faith, family, friends, and service was an inspiration to us all.

Ken’s love of travel was legendary, and he and Betty explored many parts of the world, sometimes bringing along their kids and grandchildren.

In 1966 Ken founded Herregan Distributors with his partner Bob Egan. He served as CEO until his retirement in 2019.  He continued as Chairman of the Board until his recent passing. Ken was so thankful to all Herregan employees and future partners for their contributions to the business that helped it grow as the years went by.  He served on several Boards and Associations in the floor covering industry during his long career.  Ken and Betty were involved in countless charitable, educational, and religious organizations throughout their marriage.

Ken was a devout Catholic and it was a driving force in his life. He had an undying love for family that was unwavering. He made a lasting impact on anyone he met. Ken was the consummate Gentleman, a loving husband and partner to Betty, and a guiding light for his family.  He will forever be greatly missed by us all. Ken’s family would like to thank Grace Hospice and Grace Angels for their loving care of Ken for the last two weeks of his remarkable life. We are also grateful for the love and support from family, friends and loved ones over the last few weeks. A special thank you to Ken’s friend and card playing nemesis, Father John Malone.
