Kelley’s life journey began 08/03/1960 in San Diego, CA, his spirit journey began 01/16/2026 in Minneapolis, MN. Kelley was loved and appreciated by nis family, friends, and colleagues. He was a calming presence and a wonderful teacher. He was survived by his daughter, Allison Kirby (Will), and grandson Jack Herbon.
Kelley spent his career as a scientist at the University of Minnesota. While there, he won multiple awards including the Patrick J. Manning Research Award in recognition of significant contributions to the biomedical research and the enhancement of the welfare of animals used in research.
The University of Minnesota has established the Kelley F. Kitto Undergraduate Student Scholarship in Neuroscience Research to recognize and support future college students with strong potential in neuroscience research by providing funds to college of biological science students with an interest in exploring research in neuroscience.
