Kathleen Muriel Ann O’Hara, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, died April 27, 2026, in St. Paul, Minnesota at the age of 101. Affectionately known as Kitty, she was born in St. Paul on September 24, 1924.
Like so many of her generation, Kitty was a woman of strength and fortitude. She lost her mother, Ellen Loretta Weimer, when she was age 3; her father, Walter (“Stubs”) Weimer, at 16; her husband, Jim O’Hara, in 2002; and her daughter, Lynn O’Hara Ritter, in 2017.
Kitty was raised by her maternal grandmother, Catherine (“Gagee”) Manahan, who owned a home in St. Paul near the intersection of St. Clair and Pleasant. When Kitty married Jim in 1948 (at the neighborhood Catholic church, St. Francis de Sales), they lived with Gagee and then her with them after their 1951 purchase of a home near St. Clair and Lexington. Not until June 2024 would Kitty have another home.
Four children were born of Kitty and Jim’s marriage. She is survived by son and daughter-in-law Gary and Anna O’Hara, son-in-law Robert (“Bob”) Ritter, son and daughter-in-law Steve and Rebecca O’Hara, and son Jeffrey O’Hara; grandchildren Jennifer O’Hara, Patrick O’Hara (Michelle), Kathleen Murphy (Brandon), Kelly Ritter, Sheila Ritter, Trevor O’Hara (Nicole), Eric O’Hara (Brionna), and Spencer O’Hara (Xiunell); and great-grandchildren Rylan Murphy, Scarlett Murphy, Kameron Murphy, Brylee Roberts-O’Hara, Makenna O’Hara, Leonidas O’Hara, Gemma O’Hara, Jewel O’Hara, Bernadette O’Hara, Ivar O’Hara, and Felix O’Hara.
Kitty cherished her family, including her four siblings, George (“Stubby”) Weimer, Robert (“Bob”) Weimer, Walter Howard (“Howie”) Weimer, and John (“Jack”) Weimer. All of Kitty’s siblings predeceased her.
Kitty’s husband worked in the sport of boxing, and what she enjoyed most about the sport was socializing at the boxing shows and conventions.
Kitty loved life. She taught dancing at the Prom Ballroom. She and her daughter, Lynn, had fun traveling together, including to California, Ireland, and Mexico. In her early 90s, Kitty was still golfing. She had made a hole-in-one in her 70s.
After 17 years at home with her children, Kitty worked 20 years for Control Data, soldering computer components, including in England and Germany.
Staying busy was Kitty’s middle name. When she set her mind on something, whether a home project or a crossword puzzle or a good book, she stuck with it until the thing was complete.
In addition to her strength and fortitude, Kitty will be remembered for her laughter, kindness, and indomitable spirit.
Kitty’s family thanks the Shaller Family Sholom Home East Campus, 740 Kay Avenue, St. Paul, MN, 55102, to whom memorial gifts are encouraged. Please specify the Kitty O’Hara Memorial.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM on Thursday, May 7, 2026 at Assumption Church, 51 W. 7th Street, St. Paul, with a visitation at the church beginning at 9 AM. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in St. Paul, next to Kitty’s husband’s gravesite.
