Jon Theobald Obituary

Age 78 of Saint Paul

In loving memory of Jon Arthur Theobald, born August 9, 1945, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, who passed away unexpectedly and peacefully February 13, 2024, in Tucson, Arizona. He was preceded in death by his father, Gil, his mother, Page, his elder sister, Susan Mares, and his niece, Andrea Grote.

Jon grew up in Rochester, Minnesota, a 1963 graduate of Lourdes High School. He graduated from Saint John’s University in Collegeville and Saint Louis University School of Law, then moved to Saint Paul where he began his distinguished thirty-year career in the trust business. Jon’s vast experience led him to Mairs and Power in 2002, a Saint Paul company he steered through significant growth before his retirement in 2017. Jon loved his work, his community, and the organizations he championed: Northern Star Scouting, Saint Paul Kiwanis Club, F.R. Bigelow Foundation, Saint John’s University, and Southern Minnesota Regional Legal Services were just a few. He was a passionate fan and season ticket holder of the Minnesota Twins and Minnesota Wild.

For forty-five years, Jon was married to Lea Fleming Theobald, with whom he created a legacy for his five children, Tom (Beth), Chris (Joe) Peterson, Anne (Ullrich Langer), Peggy (Dan) Ehrmanntraut, and Jon Fleming, and his nine grandchildren, Joe (Samantha) Rosga, Abby Peterson, Tommy, Charlie, Clare, and Frances Ehrmanntraut, and Eleanor, Cecelia, and George Theobald. He is survived by his seven younger siblings, Janis, Joanne Pohl, Mark (Sue), Mary (Keith) Johnson, Paul (Maureen), Jane (John) Smith, and Jean (Dave Pettengill). Jon is also survived by many nephews, nieces, cousins, life-long friends, and colleagues.

A memorial Mass will be held at 10 am on Wednesday, April 10, at the Church of the Assumption. Visitation will begin one hour before Mass. Private interment at Resurrection Cemetery, Mendota Heights. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Northern Star Scouting or Church of the Assumption.

Jon will be remembered by those who knew and loved him as thoughtful, generous, kind, loving, and wise. He was a true gentleman.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
