John "Jack" Wert Obituary

John “Jack” Rennie Wert, 82, of St. Paul, Minnesota, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and teacher, went to Heaven on November 11, 2025.

Born on November 12, 1942, in Stillwater, Minnesota, Jack was the beloved son of John and Elizabeth Wert. Jack grew up in Stillwater, Minnesota, and attended Hudson High School, where he met his future wife, Bina (Loughney). He graduated in 1966 from the University of Wisconsin - Stout with a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Education.

Jack taught auto mechanics, small engines, metal shop, and industrial arts during his 34-year career in St. Paul schools. He spent the first 10 years of his career at Monroe High School and the remainder of his years at Humboldt High School. He left a lasting impact on the students, staff, and programs at both schools.

Jack was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Jack will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, patience, wisdom, and eagerness to share his knowledge of cars and craftsmanship. Jack loved tinkering with anything mechanical, woodworking, and was always ready to lend a hand helping with numerous building or fix-it projects. He was a talented craftsman who designed and built his own unique lake home his family and friends have enjoyed for 54 years. He was also the biggest fan of the Green Bay Packers and NASCAR.

Jack married Bina (Loughney) in June of 1966, and together they built a life filled with love, tradition, cabin life, and family gatherings at the lake. He and wife Bina retired early so they could spend more time together, especially at their cabin rather than being “weekend people.”

As a grandfather, Jack was cherished for his sense of humor, gentle guidance, love of NASCAR, and certainly his sweet tooth. His grandchildren will deeply miss being told to root for the Green Bay Packers and the background hum of NASCAR races as they caught him up on each of their lives. As well as his insistence they take an extra sweet treat Grandma made for the road and his familiar reminder to “watch for deer on the way home.”

Jack is preceded in death by his parents, Elizabeth and John; his brother, Rayfield; and his granddaughters, Peyton and Kate.

He is survived by his wife, Bina; his children, Christopher (Monica) Wert and Jennifer (John); his grandchildren Emily, Ashley, Allison, and Dustin; his stepmother, Phyllis Wert; his sister, Shelly Kirchoff; and numerous relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.

A funeral will be held on Friday, November 21st at 11:00 am at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 515 Albert Street South, Saint Paul. A visitation at the church prior to mass will be held at 10:00 am. There will be a luncheon following mass and then a private burial for the family.
