John “Jack” Schabert
Age 88 of St. Paul
Passed away peacefully, surrounded by family at home on January 21, 2022.
Jack is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Betty; his children, Patty, Cynthia (Joel) Sattler, Tom (Beth Tautin), Jim, Dan (Tracy); grandchildren, DJ (Courtney), Emily, and Ryan; his sister Joan Krumpelmann; and 3 nieces and 1 nephew. He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Bob Krumpelmann.
Born and raised in St. Paul, Jack attended St. Luke’s Grade School, and graduated from Cretin High School, Class of 1950. He studied at the University of Minnesota before serving in the Marine Corp at Camp Pendleton in San Diego. He returned from his Marine duty to marry his beloved wife, Betty in 1953; together they raised their 5 children in Highland Park. Jack spent most of his career with Minnesota-Wisconsin Truck Lines. He was a kind and generous husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was always willing to lend his hand and his building/craftsman skills to help others on projects, home additions, and more. He especially cherished his family time at the lake cabin in NW Wisconsin.
Visitation 4-7pm Thursday, January 27 at O’Halloran & Murphy, 575 Snelling Ave. S., St. Paul. Mass of Christian Burial 3pm Friday, January 28 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 515 Albert St. S., St. Paul with visitation one hour prior to mass at church. A private burial will take place at Ft Snelling National Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the staffs of Minneapolis VA, 4J Rehab, Sara and Abby at Fairview Accent Care, and the Pillar’s of Highland Park for the exceptional care they gave Jack.
