John McFarland Sr. Obituary

John A. McFarland, Sr., 92, born May 3, 1933 in St. Paul, MN, to Frank and Adeline (Botz) McFarland, passed away November 5, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.  

John graduated from Cretin High School in 1951 and went on to earn degrees from Marquette University and Marquette Law School in 1957.  After graduation, he practiced law and subsequently got his CPA license, working in finance and accounting.  He was a faithful, lifelong resident of St. Paul, where along with his wife they raised their family. In retirement he enjoyed traveling, golf, watching sports, and proudly cheering on his grandchildren.  John was an amazing husband, father, brother, Papa, and friend, he will be deeply missed. Rest in peace with love, dear dad. 

John was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Sandra; sister Barbara MacIntyre (Richard DeLuca); children John Jr. (Colleen), Peggy (Scott) Lord, Katie (Jon) Longfellow, Bill (Antoinette), and Jim; grandchildren Daniel McFarland, Chris McFarland, Alex (Gabrielle) Lord, Will Lord, Anne Longfellow, Tom (Christina) Longfellow; one great grandchild, Graham Lord, and another due in January.  

The family would like to thank the ICU doctors and nurses at St. John’s Hospital, Maplewood, MN. 

Mass of Christian burial at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 515 S. Albert St., St. Paul, MN 55116 on Friday, November 14, 2025, at 12:00 pm, with visitation prior from 10:00 am -12:00 pm. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery.  

Memorials preferred to Cretin/Derham Hall, 550 S. Albert St. St. Paul, MN 55116
