Passed away Wednesday, January 21, 2026. He was born on November 29, 1948, in Stockton, CA, but from age two was a resident of St. Paul. Preceded in death by parents, Ed and Leone Ryan, and by wife of 40 years, Margie (Lewis). Survived by sister Patricia and brothers Michael and Tom, sons Michael (Hannah) and Mark (Maria), and grand-daughters Elvi and Fiona. John attended St. Luke's grade school, Class of 1962, St. Thomas Academy, Class of 1966, and at various times St. Thomas College, College of St. Catherine's and Metropolitan State University. John served proudly as a bio-medical technician in the US Army Medical Corps, which led to a 26-year career as a Respiratory Therapist at Twin Cities hospitals, and 11 more years as a Respiratory Specialist with Merck & Co. He loved travelling with Margie, especially when going back to his beloved Germany. He liked baseball and softball, still playing in recent years, and hosting Friday night Twins game viewing in the "Men's Crisis Center" (Garage). He was a Gopher football fan, dreaming of the day when they would make it back to the Rose Bowl. He also loved old cars, including his 1948 Plymouth Special Deluxe Coupes. Bulletin Board readers will know him as "John in Highland." A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am, Friday, January 30th at Lumen Christi Catholic Community, 2055 Bohland Ave, St Paul, MN 55116, with a visitation 1 hour prior to Mass and from 4 - 8pm on Thursday, January 29th at O'Halloran and Murphy Funeral Home, 575 Snelling Ave. S., St. Paul, MN 55116. A private family interment will be held at Resurrection Cemetery. Memorials preferred to donor's choice.
