The family of Jerome “Jerry” Filla is deeply saddened to announce his passing on April 12, 2026. Born on June 29, 1944, in St. Paul, Minnesota, Jerry was a lifelong resident of the Twin Cities. A graduate of Cretin High School (class of 1961, class president for all four years), the College of St. Thomas (class of 1965), and The University of Minnesota Law School, Jerry specialized in municipal law, serving as attorney for the City of Shoreview for 41 years, as well as the City of Arden Hills and the City of Lake Elmo for several years. Jerry enjoyed gardening (serving a term as President of the Minnesota Horticultural Society), golf, and softball as a member of the Holy Spirit Men's team for several seasons, a source of many long and dear friendships. Preceded in death by parents Joe and Vicki, parents-in-law Gene and Lou Daly, and brother- and sister-in-law Gene and Bonnie Daly, along with many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Beloved husband of Debbie (Daly), wonderful father of Matt, Jenny (Vinck), and Mark (wife Lisa), brother of Tom and his wife Karen, and Marilyn (Miller) and her husband Ken, brother-in-law to Peg Daly and her husband Dan Mabley, uncle to several nieces and nephews, and loving Papa to grandsons Jack, Henry and Sam Vinck. and Riley and Fletcher Filla. Jerry's kindness and humor brought joy into the lives of all who knew him. He will be missed by his family and his many friends and colleagues.
The family thanks the people at Regions Hospital, Health East Hospice, and Episcopal Homes for the wonderful care he received in his final weeks. A celebration of Jerry's life will be held on Tuesday, April 28th, from 4pm-7pm, at DiGidio's Restaurant on W. Seventh in St. Paul.
