Jeffrey Drummond Obituary

Jeffrey James Drummond, age 71, beloved husband, father, and friend passed away on Sunday, April 19, 2026. Jeff passed peacefully at home, surrounded by love, following a two-year journey with cancer.

Jeff was born and raised in Perham, MN. He graduated from Perham High School in 1972. He attended the University of Minnesota Morris where he received his bachelor’s degree, majoring in chemistry and minoring in physics and theater arts.

Jeff continued his education in the Twin Cities, taking graduate courses in computer science. He started as a programmer at the University Computer Center and moved on to Cray Research where he spent most of his career. Jeff had a deep connection to sports, playing softball, where he kept detailed statistics for our long-standing rec team, volleyball, where he met his wife Janet, and later coaching his son’s T-ball and soccer teams, and more recently taking up pickleball.

He married Janet in 1990, and together they built a forever-home in St. Paul, where he alternated between his career in computer programming and raising his children, taking years off work to create a picturesque slice of the world “as it should be”, complete with white picket fence.

Jeff enjoyed hosting friends, sports, logic games, cuddling with his kittens, learning about space exploration, crossword puzzles, woodworking and continually improving our home with a fervent DiY attitude and determination.

Jeff is survived by his wife Janet and children Anthony and Amy; sister Debra (Chris); sisters-in-law Laura, Betty, Martha Lynn, Edith(Jack Selegue), Christine and Joyce(Dan Luoma); and many nieces and nephews.

Jeff was preceded in death by his parents Lester and Verna; his brothers Greg and Denny; his nephew Aaron; in-laws Lyle and Louise Eberhart; brother-in-law Bill Galinski;

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Planetary Society.

A private celebration will be held on May 9th. For more information or to share a memory, photo, or story, please e-mail CelebratingJeffDrummond@gmail.com
