On the evening of May 26th, 2026, Jean Wilmes passed away at the age of 77 from a tragic fall in her kitchen.
Jean was born February 29th, 1949, in St. Paul MN to Raymond and Charlotte Krueger. She was the youngest of 6 children.
Jean worked her whole career at 3M. She started in 1966 as an intern, graduated high school in 1967 and became a full-time secretary/admin. Later when she was in the Occupational Health and Safety Division, she moved into the laboratory to help with respirator testing. She was part of the team choosing their first computer and helped in a variety of roles. She retired after 37 years.
She and Don traveled a lot, especially in retirement. They especially loved going to Hawaii and long cruises. Jean had over 200 nights cruising all over the world. They also threw themselves into gardening, antiquing, cooking and quilting. In recent years her traveling had slowed down, and she was content reading and puzzling. She will be dearly missed by friends and family she chatted and went out to eat with.
Jean is survived by her two stepchildren, Karen and Steve, and many nieces and nephews.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Don; her mother, Charlotte; her father, Raymond; her brother, Jerry; and her sisters, Shirley, Susan, Mary, and Janet.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 20th, 2026, at O’Halloran & Murphy, 8700 Valley Creek Road, Woodbury, MN 55125. Visitation will be from 10 a.m.-11 a.m. Service will start at 11 a.m.
