Janelle Mae Carle

Janelle Mae Carle, 44, of St. Paul, MN, passed away on August 28, 2023, after a 9+ year battle with cancer. Janelle overcame cancer twice before it came back in January 2023. Janelle was born July 12, 1979, in St. Paul, MN. Janelle graduated from St. Paul Central High School in 1997, went on to complete her BA degree at Steven’s Point Wisconsin, and achieved her MA at St. Mary’s University, in Marriage and Family Therapy.

Janelle was dedicated to helping change the lives of those struggling with mental health concerns. She was a somatic trauma therapist certified in Brainspotting, EMDR, IFS, and trained in psychedelic-assisted therapy, among many other modalities. She was well-known in the mental health professional community in Minnesota, as well as the International Brainspotting Practitioners community. Janelle was always passionate about healing. She had a knack for always knowing the right words to say and most importantly listening with her whole heart. Janelle had a beautiful and infectious smile that would light up any room she entered.

Janelle loved to travel and traveled all over the world for work and play. She worked in various paradises such as Grand Manan Island, Australia, Two Harbors, and New Zealand. She took pride in everything she did. She fell in love with Lake Superior, Costa Rica, and St. John in the Virgin Islands. The waters of these places brought her peace.

She studied with the great Jane Goodall through a college program where she worked directly with chimpanzees in their natural habitat. She experienced waking up to puffins and whales every day for a summer while working on Grand Manan Island. She supported kids and teens in their healing at SolTreks in Two Harbors for over 3 summers. Janelle was fearless in her travels and had a passion for adventure.

Preceded in death by Grandparents Janaan and Don Newell. Janelle is survived by her mother Ellen Carle, siblings Nicole Carle (Dominic), Lisa Borowitz (Brent, Mallory, Emersyn, Emmitt), Uncle Howard (Sherri), cousins, cats Greyson and Huck, Katie Schwartz, and many loving relatives & friends.

Her wonderful spirit, joy, and memories will be celebrated on Sept 23, 2023, from 4-8 p.m. at Beards Plaisance at 4525 Upton Ave S, Minneapolis, MN 55410. We will start a short ceremony at 4:45 with memory sharing around 5. We ask that you please have a memory to share about Janelle. If you do not want to share with everyone, we will have a memory box for you to place your memory. We will provide water, pop, and a couple of Janelle’s favorite local foods. If you want to bring your own beverages, please do. No alcohol permitted. You are welcome to bring a lawn chair to the park. We look forward to celebrating her life with everyone who helped to influence it.
