James "Jim" Rothgarn Obituary

James (Jim) R. Rothgarn, Born: April 15, 1960, Lake City, MN - Passed: October 9, 2025, Woodbury, MN

Jim passed after a brief illness on October 9, 2025, aged 65. He leaves behind wife, Colleen, brother Jerome “Jere” (Barbara), sister Patti, nephew Andrew, niece Brittany (Thomas), his beloved kitties Leela and Piper and many, many friends. James was preceded in death by father Robert, mother Ardis (nee: Miller), sister Joann and beloved kitties Marvin, Nicholas and Gibson. Jim attended Park High School (1978) and attended Hamline University on a Soccer scholarship. Sadly, he left after his sophomore year due to the need to find employment with the unexpected death of his mother. Jim stumbled upon sales as a manner of employment and gradually came to understand it was a skill in which he excelled. Through his 40 years in sales, Jim was proud to be a member of several of the nations most storied companies including AT&T, ADT, Tyco, Siemens and finally Bosch. Jim felt his best asset as a salesperson was to offer advice but never push. He wanted to foster relationships with his clients where trust and respect were paramount. In the days since his death, former and current clients have reached out to express genuine sorrow over the loss of someone they felt was a partner who treated them with respect and understanding. When Jim wasn’t working for his clients, Jim enjoyed flying drones, catching up with the latest “Harry Dresden” novels, watching his beloved Minnesota Vikings and Minnesota Wild, being a couch for his kitties, watching his favorite JSA Sumo Rikishi Ura and the week prior to his death he was began to learn Japanese with his wife for an intended retirement trip to Japan. Jim was a gregarious, open hearted man who strived to make every person he met feel comfortable and welcomed. He will be missed. A Celebration of Life for Jim is planned for next late Spring. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jim’s name to your favorite charity would be welcomed.
