James Michael Hannon
James (Jim) Hannon was born February 3,1951, and passed away unexpectedly on May 6, 2025 at the age of 74. A devoted husband, proud father, beloved grandfather, and cherished friend, Jim lived a full and generous life, rich with love, laughter, and purpose.
Jim was born in Gary, IN. He spent his childhood with his six siblings and many cousins in Gary. He attended the College of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN, where he received a bachelor’s degree in Management and Accounting. He earned the Elijah Watt Sells Award, an award that was granted to top CPA candidates. In 1983 he earned a master’s degree in Management from the Stanford Sloan Graduate School of Business in Palo Alto, CA. Jim was a trusted executive and consultant across a variety of industries throughout his career. He spent the last decade of his career as CFO of Vyriad, where he was deeply committed to advancing the company’s vision.
Despite his commitment to his career, he always made family his number one priority. Early on, Jim enjoyed taking his daughters to sporting events, biking to Como Zoo, and playing Ms. Pac-Man.
Jim and Sue were married in August 1989 and made their home in St. Paul, MN, where they raised their three sons. Jim was often found coaching his sons’ teams, cheering on basketball games at the University of St. Thomas, and attending high school games across St. Paul and Chicago. A devoted grandfather, he regularly stopped in Milwaukee to visit his grandson while en route to volleyball or football games in Chicago.
He made a lasting impact on every single person he came across. He went out of his way to treat everyone like they were the most important person in the room. He made it his life's duty to always make sure everyone else was having a great time before thinking about himself. He could walk into any gym in America and make immediate friends.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Josephine Hannon; brothers Tommy and Rick Hannon; and longtime friend Greg Trost.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Sue (Potts) Hannon; children Kristin (Dave) Keil, Beth, Tommy (Liz), Kevin (Paige) and Michael (Shea); four grandchildren he adored, Jacob, Rachel, Zack and Lily; and siblings Bobby (Donna) Hannon, Mary (Garland) Horton, Trish (Dean) Wendt, and Maureen (Mike) Hill.
Jim was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many. We will miss him deeply. The family wants to extend their heartfelt appreciation for all of the support they have received throughout this incredibly difficult time.
Visitation will be held at O’Halloran & Murphy located at 575 South Snelling Ave in St. Paul, MN from 2-6 pm on Monday, May 12, 2025. A brief moment of reflection will be held at 6:15 pm highlighting Jim's incredible life.
