Tucker, Capt. James Peter
It is with great sadness that the family of Jim Tucker announces his passing after battling Parkinson’s Disease, on Thursday, February 25, 2021, at the age of 68. Jim will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 47 years, Sun Kum, and his daughters Diane (Collin) Campbell and Theresa (James) Warner.
Jim will also be fondly remembered by his siblings JoAnn Dropiewski, Lynn Schabot, Karen Murphy, John Tucker, Melanie Derrenbacher, Pat Tucker, and Kevin Tucker as well as his large and loving family in South Korea and Omaha, Nebraska. Jim was predeceased by his parents, Donald P. and Lorraine.
Family was his life’s priority. With exactly the right amount of finesse, he enabled his beloved wife and two daughters to become their best selves: strong women, confident in any situation.
Jim served his country for a total of 38 years: 23 years active duty in the U.S. Air Force and 15 years as a GS for the Department of Defense.
It is because of men like Jim Tucker that the horror of war is something that generations of Americans can only imagine. Highly regarded for his brilliance in a broad spectrum of intelligence and war planning disciplines (especially targeting and weaponeering), Jim’s work very directly relieved many people around the globe from terror.
Many men seek to achieve balance in life. Few men succeed in the way that Jim did. He was deeply humble, goofy at home, unusually good at horseshoes, an avid reader, and kept the serious nature of his responsibilities to the United States absolutely private.
Jim was a native of Kingston, New York, and a lifelong Yankees fan.
A true American patriot, Jim will be buried at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. A memorial service will be held on
Wednesday, March 10th at 12:00pm CST at the Fort Snelling Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow.
