James D. Saumer, age 86, of Shoreview, died peacefully September 1st, 2020 at New Brighton Care Center. James Saumer was born September 23, 1933, to Rudolph and Mary (Nee Wimmer) Saumer and raised on a farm in Roseville. Honorably served his country during peacetime. On August 3, 1957, was united in marriage to Betty Williams at Maternity of Mary Church. They built a home in Shoreview and raised three girls. James worked construction for Markum, Orfie and Sons Construction as well as Rollins Fuel Oil until he retired in 1996. Loved hunting, fishing, woodworking and spending time with family. He created and restored many beautiful wood projects for family and friends. Survived by wife, Betty Saumer (Nee Williams); daughters, Sheryl (Steve) Saumer-Nelson, Susan (Jim) Cich, Kimberly (Dale) Lundstrom; grandchildren, Emma Nelson, Gage Nelson, Rachel (Lloyd) Beseke, Andrea (Josh) Perron, Samuel Lundstrom; great-grandchild, Josephine; brothers-in-law, Chet Miller and Harold Williams; sisters-in-laws, Janie Saumer, Wilma Williams, Alice Hylton; many nieces and nephews. James was preceded in death by parents, Rudolph and Mary (Nee Wimmer) Saumer; brothers, Jerome, Eugene and Ray; sisters, Betty, Mary and June, along with many brothers and sisters-in-law. We would like to thank the Minneapolis VA Healthcare System, Grace Hospice and New Brighton Care Center for their wonderful care and support of Jim. Private service to be held on Friday, September 11 at 1PM by invitation only. Celebration of Life to be held Saturday, September 12, from 1-5PM at 276 Bridge St., Shoreview MN 55126. Burial will be at Fort Snelling at a later date.
