James Kaintz Obituary

James (Jim) Michael Kaintz

Died peacefully at home June 9, 2025. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mildred (Holtkamp) Kaintz and son-in-law, Peter Merwin. Survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Mary Ann (Roth) Kaintz; children, Michelle Merwin, Melissa and Michael (Corrin) and his 4 grandchildren, Kay, Logan, Lydia and Haley.

Jim was born in St Paul, MN on September 19, 1946 to John and Mildred Kaintz. He grew up with his younger brother, Jack, in the Highland Park area of St. Paul and attended Nativity and Immaculate Heart of Mary grade schools then Central High School. He received an Associate’s degree in Accounting from St. Paul Tech and spent 26 years working at the University of MN in grants.

He married Mary Ann Roth on August 12, 1978 and had 3 children, Michelle, Melissa and Michael. They lived in St. Paul’s Midway area. Throughout these years he spent time in the Midway Men’s Club, St. Columba Finance Committee, unofficial softball coach at Griggs Playground, volunteer for Cafesjian’s Carousel at Como Park, bell ringer for Salvation army, the football office pool organizer and has been an avid reader on JFK, presidents and World War II.

He was most proud of his 4 grandchildren. He enjoyed spending time with them and watching them grow up. They brought him so much joy in his retirement years.

We would like to thank all of his caregivers at Life Fountain Home Health Care and Hospice of the Midwest.
